Update.

It has been nearly 2 weeks with the Prevacid and after a 3 day trial with peas, the nightly screaming is back. The next day we were back on cereal and breast milk--and back to sleeping through the night.

Stella has an appointment with an allergist next week. Is anybody familiar with food intolerance? Needless to say, after consulting with the doctor we are stopping the Prevacid and on to other causes.

I am beginning to be more concerned. Breast milk and cereal is not a great diet for a baby who will be turning one next weeek . . . . we have been on this simple diet for 5 weeks.

That sucks Tara-good luck w/the allergist and figuring out what the problem is-nobody likes screaming babies who won't eat :o(

We were so hoping that Prevacid would be Stella's cure! Good luck with the testing - we know how hard it is to put a little baby through lots of test. Hopefully the end result will be worth it. Keep us updated on how she's doing.

Hi Tara,

You don't know me. I ran across a comment on Tara's blog about Prevacid.

Both of my older girls had reflux, and food intolerances (not allergies) and it was rough, to say the least.

My oldest daughter had a dairy intolerance which made her reflux worse but we didn't figure it out in time. Luckily she outgrew it around 18 months.

Our middle daughter had a dairy intolerance as well and I had to quit eating dairy while I was nursing her. It was the only way to get her reflux under control. Even with the meds it wasn't enough until I took dairy out. She also couldn't handle solids (her digestive system was too immature) until age 3. She was on Prevacid for several months as well. She's 6 now, eats like a champ. She outgrew her dairy intolerance between ages 4-5. She also has a corn syrup intolerance which I think she will never outgrow.

I'm just curious if you have tried an elimination diet since you are nursing? Food is such a big reflux trigger in so many children. And as I'm sure you already know, there is no easy test for food intolerances. And more foods might show up through allergy testing the older she gets as well.

If you'd like to e-mail me, please feel free. I'd be more then happy to talk to you about reflux and everything that goes along with it. Ask Tara for my e-mail. I'd rather not publish it online.

Take care,

April
